| Welcome
to the Junior League of Milwaukee!
“Never doubt that a small
group of thoughtful, committed citizens
can change the world. Indeed, it is the
only thing that ever has.”
- Margaret Mead
For 94 years, the Junior League
of Milwaukee has been a force for positive
change in our community. As a membership
of 700 women living and working in the greater
Milwaukee area, we remain passionate and
dedicated to living out our mission to promote
voluntarism, develop the potential of |
|
women, and improve communities through the effective
action and leadership of trained volunteers.
Our organization continues to be recognized as
a community leader and advocate for issues, such
as domestic violence, child abuse prevention,
foster care and women’s health. What makes the
Junior League of Milwaukee what it is today is
our countless hours of service doing what is absolutely
needed and necessary. Our version of the Extreme
Makeover, organizing blood drives, packing a backpack
for a young child who is leaving a violent home
situation, and raising money to start up organizations
that are now widely known in Milwaukee, from the
Children’s Health Education Center to the Blood
Center of Wisconsin, Gilda’s Club of Southeastern
Wisconsin and now, Kids Matter are the hallmarks
of our longstanding history of service.
As individual members and together as an organization,
we will continue to build on the successes of
the last 93 years. We will also explore the ways
in which our future Done in the Day projects and
community commitments work to address our community’s
greatest needs. We will do this by inviting input
from community leaders and our members.
Our fundraisers, the Party of the Year on June
19th, our Holiday Boutique on November 13th and
14th, our Speakers Event in February 2010 and
our Grand Garage Sale in the spring of 2010 will
raise critical financial resources to support
our ongoing commitment to young adults transitioning
out of the foster care system, our Done in the
Day projects in service to Milwaukee citizens,
and training he next wave of community leaders
who will support nonprofit organizations through
direct service and in the board room.
As we begin this very exciting year, I invite
you to “Celebrate the Junior League of Milwaukee’s
History and Create the Future” with us.
With gratitude,
Merilou V. Gonzales
2009-10 JLM President
