Community
Outreach Committee
The Community Outreach Committee (COC) plans for,
implements, and markets community initiatives within
focus areas of domestic violence, child abuse prevention,
and women’s health.
The purpose of the COC is to further the JLM’s
mission by offering satisfying volunteer opportunities
to its members. This committee partners JLM volunteers
with Milwaukee area non-profit organizations to
help them meet their needs. Through special events
and other short-term “hands on” projects,
JLM volunteers work together with the non-profits
to improve the lives of those in need. Whether
it’s painting rooms in abuse shelters to
help brighten the surroundings or holding food
drives to fill pantries or spending time with
children from local emergency homeless shelters,
this committee helps the JLM get their hands into
the local community. Volunteer opportunities are
offered in sufficient numbers to allow Junior
League members to complete their yearly-required
community shifts. They are also designed to achieve
significant impact within areas of interest to
the membership and the board: domestic violence,
child abuse prevention, and women’s health.
Community Outreach opportunities are categorized
by type to facilitate both their planning and
description.
- Done in a Day events
with one agency on one specific date.
- JLM sponsored annual events
available to multiple agencies on a specific
date. An example of this is the annual Santa’s
Castle.
- Emergency needs initiatives
addressing an imminent critical need for donate
goods. Examples include food drives to offset
food bank shortages or a blanket drive to offset
a shortage in an emergency shelter.
