Sustainers
Sustaining members of the Junior League of Milwaukee
are women who are 40 years of age or more and
who have completed a minimum of two (2) years
of Active service, or members under 40 years of
age who have completed 10 years of Active service.
For many League members, transitioning from Active
to Sustainer status marks not the end of their
commitment to their League and the communities
they serve, but rather a "new beginning."
It is a time for renewing old friendships and
making new friendships as well. Some Sustainers
in the Junior League of Milwaukee (JLM) remain
actively involved in League work by serving as
liaisons to Active committees, participating in
"Done in a Day" projects, or engaging
in fundraising activities. As Sustainers we are
interested in the health and well being of the
JLM on all levels.
Traditionally, Junior League Sustainers may focus
more on social activities or interest group opportunities
than on active voluntarism through League channels.
We hope the information below helps you understand
some of the activities made available to Sustaining
members of the Junior League of Milwaukee.
General Section
The activities highlighted below are open to Active
or Sustaining members of the Junior League of
Milwaukee. If you are eligible for Sustainer status,
as a past Active member in Milwaukee or a transfer
from another League, but have not joined at this
time, please contact the League office for information.
We welcome you to our membership.
If you currently are a JLM member, please go
to the "Members Only" section on this
Website for specific information on days, dates,
times, or contact phone numbers for activities.
Interest Groups - Some interest
groups are ongoing from year to year, while others
may be more active at one time and "take
a break" from time to time. Interest Groups
include:
Book Groups
Investment Group
Walking Group (currently seasonal)
Lunch Bunch - an informal opportunity to join
other League members and try different restaurants
Bridge Groups
Needle and Thread Group (new in 2005)
Education - Offered are a wide
variety of education opportunities, such as learning
to use E-Bay, CPR, flower pounding, candy making,
and organization skills. There is a new schedule
of classes every year.
Day Trips are exactly that...an
excursion to a local site or exhibit of interest.
Day trips may be planned to last a half day or
a full day, and may include a bus ride and lunch
on longer trips. Most Day Trips include a charge
to cover expenses.
Luncheons we traditionally plan
a Fall luncheon in October and a Holiday luncheon
in December.
Junior League Singers - This
group was started forty years ago and has been
performing continually since then. A professional
director works with the group. They practice through
the fall, perform at the Sustainer Holiday Luncheon,
and, beginning in January, go on tour performing
at area homes for the elderly.
.
Please join the fun. If you are eligible
to be a Sustainer but have not as yet joined,
we welcome your participation. Contact the League
office for information. If you are a Sustainer,
come on out and join the fun. And, please consider
a position on the Sustainer Committee. This is
a great opportunity to rekindle old friendships
and make new friends. You are most welcome.
