Safe Home Environment
The Junior League of Milwaukee selected Safe Home Environment as its centennial community partner. This partnership will allow the Aurora Abuse Response program Safe Mom, Safe Baby to add safe housing at Mercy Housing’s St. Catherine Residence to its wrap-around services for expectant mothers threatened by domestic violence.
Santa’s Castle is a fun and exciting annual, mid-December event hosted by JLM. Between 100 and 200 at-risk children participate in the event every year, and it is a favorite volunteer opportunity for many of our members! The goal of the event is to provide a holiday experience to kids who otherwise may not have the chance to enjoy a celebration.
During Santa’s Castle, children participate in a variety of hands-on games, story-time and craft activities geared around the winter holiday season. We have even been lucky enough to arrange for Santa to visit our event every year to deliver gifts to the kids and spread cheer throughout the event. This event is executed by our Done-In-A-Day committee, and continues to be a League highlight each year!
The Done-In-A-Day (DIAD) committee plans and executes a wide variety of opportunities for our members to volunteer and make an impact on our community. The committee organizes multiple projects throughout the year within the focus area of education, health, and nutrition of women and children, as well as meeting other community volunteer needs, as they arise. DIAD partners include Habitat for Humanity, Sexual Assault Treatment Center at Aurora Sinai, United Way, Meta House, Kids Matter, Hunger Task Force, Milwaukee Women’s Shelter, Milwaukee Police Department, Milwaukee Public Schools, and many more.
Junior League of Milwaukee Singers
The JLM Singers is the longest running community service project in our League’s history. We begin rehearsals in September to train for a 40 minute musical show that is performed in nursing homes Monday afternoons from January to May. We debut each year’s program at the Sustainer Holiday Luncheon.
We look forward to performing this year’s program, “Happy Together”, at this year’s Holiday Luncheon, December 13 at the Milwaukee Country Club.
