Past Community Projects

Kids Matter and the Teen Transition Program

In 2004, the Junior League of Milwaukee selected Kids Matter, Inc. as a community partner organization that could benefit from the League’s volunteer strength, expertise and fundraising capability. To commemorate the League’s 90th year serving the Milwaukee community, the JLM committed to donate $90,000 to Kids Matter. The financial commitment was carried out over three years, culminating in a donation that allowed Kids Matter to create an environment more conducive to the needs of its employees, volunteers and clients.

After the three years, the JLM decided to transition their commitment to Kids Matter from a financial partnership to a partnership of service and community action. The Signature Project committee developed the concept for the Teen Transition Program (TTP) in partnership with Kids Matter, based on unmet needs of foster children aging out of the foster care system. Some of these needs included skills training, developing marketable work experience, managing finances, living a healthy lifestyle, and establishing their first home outside of the foster care system.
