Meet Our 2018-19 Board of Directors!

Nicole Gulatz, President

Nicole Gulatz is the President of the Junior League of Milwaukee for the 2018-2019 year. Prior to this she served for three years on the Community Program Planning Committee, leading the effort to select the League’s Centennial Anniversary partner, Aurora Health Care’s Safe Home Environment program. Professionally, Nicole has worked in fund development at the American Red Cross for over 10 years and currently serves as the Chief Development Officer for the Wisconsin Region. Nicole has a bachelors degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison in International Studies and Political Science. Nicole is a member of TEMPO’s Emerging Women Leaders, the Planned Giving Council of Eastern Wisconsin and Milwaukee Film. In her free time, she loves hiking, board games, and enjoying the many festivals and events around Greater Milwaukee

Laura Hyland, President-Elect

Laura Hyland is President-Elect of the Junior League of Milwaukee. Laura has previously served as chair of the Signature Project and Kids in the Kitchen committees. Laura joined JLM in 2012 after she and her husband, Jim moved from Arlington, Virginia. Outside of JLM, Laura works as a CPA at the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants specializing in governmental accounting and auditing. She earned her BBA and MBA from the University of Wisconsin. In her free time, Laura enjoys traveling, reading, spending time outdoors and shuttling her 3 children to their activities.

Susie Allen, Recording Secretary

Susie Allen is the Recording Secretary. Susie is re-joining the board after serving as the Director of Revenue in 2014-15 and 2015-16. Susie became an Active in Junior League in 2009. She has served on the Signature Project Committee (2009-10 and 2010-11), Grand Garage Sale (Chair Elect 2011-12 and Chair 2012-13 and 2013-14). Susie also worked as the liaison for the with MCFI and worked with the special committee to identify a new fundraiser for JLM. She was excited to join JLM because of the amazing group of women who are committed to the Milwaukee community and the development of leadership skills. Susie is a partner with Stafford Rosenbaum LLP, practicing in product liability and warranty litigation. She lives in Waukesha and enjoys spending time with her amazing friends and two dogs, Val and Daisy.

Kim Berg, Treasurer/Director of Operations

Kim Berg is joining the Board as the Director of Operations for the 2018 / 2019 League year. Kim became an Active member during the League’s 2016 / 2017 year and started out on the Finance committee which is where she has grown since, moving into the Finance Chair position for the 2017 / 2018 League year. Kim joined the League primarily as a way to get more involved in the community. Outside of the League, Kim works as a Tax Manager at Baker Tilly, a public accounting firm, serving a variety of retail and professional service clients. She double majored in Accounting and Finance from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. In any free time, Kim enjoys spending summers on the lake and traveling with family and friends.

Dana Schmidman, Director of Membership

Dana Schmidman is the Director of Membership. She joined the Junior League of Milwaukee in 2012. In the past, she served as a member, chair-elect, and co-chair of the New Member Recruitment and Orientation Committee, as well as a member of the Nominating Committee.

Margaret Krei, Director of Community

Margaret Krei is the Director of Community, in the second year of her two-year term on the JLM Board during the 2018-2019 league year. Margaret has previously served on the Kids in the Kitchen Committee (2013-14), Done in a Day Committee (Chair 2015-16, Chair Elect 2014-15), and Donor Relations Committee (Chair Elect 2016-17). Margaret joined the League in the 2011-12 League Year to meet new people and learn about volunteer opportunities in Milwaukee, as she moved to Milwaukee from Washington, D.C. in July of 2010. Margaret is an attorney at Husch Blackwell and is a member of the labor and employment practice group. Margaret holds a Bachelor’s degree from George Washington University where she majored in International Affairs and minored in Political Science and Art History. Margaret went to Marquette University for law school and concentrated her studies on civil litigation. In her free time, Margaret enjoys playing tennis, planning group activities and gatherings with friends, and telling anyone who will listen how handsome her dog, Opie is.

Ceci Bassindale, Director of Revenue

Ceci Bassindale is entering her first year on the board as Director of Revenue. She joined the Junior League of Milwaukee as a transfer member from the Junior League of Grand Rapids (JLGR) in 2016 where she was placed on the Donor Relations committee. Prior to transferring, she was President-Elect for the Junior League of Grand Rapids (2015/16), VP of Community Impact (2014/15), Chair of Community Impact (2012/2014), and joined the League in fall of 2011. During her time in the League she has attended multiple AJLI leadership conferences, launched new fundraising programs for JLGR, completed the Issue-Based Community Impact AJLI rollout, and several community impact initiatives and Done in a Day events. With her great-grandmother and grandmother being Junior Leaguers themselves, Ceci always knew this was an organization she wanted to be involved in.
Ceci is currently a stay-at-home mom for her three children and has been married to her husband Joe for eight years. Before having children, she worked as a special education teacher at a Spanish immersion school in Lexington, KY. She has a duel B.S. degree from the University of Kentucky in Learning and Behavior Disorders and Moderate to Severe Disabilities.

Marita Stollenwerk, Director of Communications

Marita Stollenwerk is the Director of Communications, joining the board for the first time during the 2018 / 2019 league year. Prior to this she served on the Grants Committee (Chair 2017/18, Chair Elect 2016/17), Website Committee (2015/16), and Done in a Day (2014/15 and 2013/14). She joined the League during the 2012 /13 League Year as a way to become more engaged in her adopted City of Milwaukee and to meet ladies looking to make a difference. During the day, Marita works as a Senior Project Manager for an Environmental Consulting firm, specializing in commercial environmental due diligence and soil and groundwater contamination assessment / remediation. Marita’s passion is the cleanup and redevelopment of blighted, abandoned and contaminated properties as a way to stimulate neighborhood revitalization. She has a dual degree from Boston University in Environmental Science and Geology and is a registered professional geologist and licensed asbestos inspector. Outside of work and the League, Marita enjoys spending her mornings rowing on the Milwaukee River, and after work chasing her three kids around.

Tanja Felton, Sustainer Representative

Tanja Felton is Chair-Elect of the JLM Sustainers.  Prior to serving on the Actives Board, she served as Fun-on-the-Run Co-Chair (2015 – 2018), Centennial Soiree Co-Chair (2015), Sustainer Tea Co-Chair (2010) and Party of the Year Co-Chair (2009).  Tanja joined the Junior League of Cincinnati as a Provisional in 1995.  She also spent time in the Junior League of Richmond during her 14 months away from Milwaukee in 2012-2013.  Tanja’s background is in marketing and music.  She earned her MBA from the University of Wisconsin and her Bachelor’s degree from Lawrence University.  After spending a decade in brand management for Kraft Foods, H. J. Heinz and Hasbro, she started a marketing consulting business in 1997.  She has recently come full circle with her music and now teaches private piano lessons.    

Over the past 15 years, Tanja has chaired numerous fundraising events in town, including galas and luncheons for the Milwaukee Public Museum, the American Cancer Society, the Junior League of Milwaukee, and the Mequon Thiensville School District.  She is currently on the Board of Directors for The Town Club and is an Emeritus Board Member and Past-President of the Mequon Thiensville Education Foundation.  Her former Board of Director positions include the Milwaukee Public Museum and The American Cancer Society – Wisconsin State Leadership Council.  

Tanja is married with two college-aged children.  In her free time, she loves cooking, reading, traveling, playing tennis, and time with friends and family – near and far.
